As I am trying to think about my why for the World Race, I think of all of the people in my life. I think about all of the guidance and training that I have received throughout my college career. You see, missions is a very real and true calling on my life and God has made it known to me through multiple signs. To even be accepted to the World Race is a major sign from God that this is what He wants me to do.

I always like to tell this story of when I was in High school, my mom would always tell me, “Lee, I have a feeling that God is going to take you far away from home.” You see, I would argue with my mom on this point, telling her that I would never leave Georgia and that I was going to find a great job as an agriculture worker. Little did I know that God had other plans. He would put a man in my life by the name of Eric Capaci. Brother Eric quickly became a mentor to me and through out the years of us getting to know each other, through church camp, He told me about Champion Christian College. I never gave it a thought at first, but then came my junior year in High School and I started looking at different schools to go to. I applied for a pretty big agriculture college in Georgia, which I was accepted, and then Champion Christian College. I had a tour set up for Champion first and as soon as I set foot on the campus of Champion, I knew that it was where God wanted me to go.

Fast forward three years, I was a junior in college and I hear about an awesome opportunity through the IMB (International Mission Board). It is called Journeyman and one of my friends told me that they thought I really should apply for it. I applied for it and started the process, but I put it on hold right at the start of my senior year. Now about a year later, I have graduated and God put it on my heart to reapply. During that process my friend Isabel posted about the World Race and I thought that it would be really awesome to go on this trip to set up for the upcoming trip with Journeyman. I placed it in God’s hands and said, “God if this is what you want me to do, make it known and open the door.” That is exactly what He did. Now I am on the awesome path of being able to grow in areas that I have never been able to experience in the past.

This calling is all from God and I know that this is what He is wanting me to do. I look forward to the experiences that God has for me and the people that I am going on this trip with. God will use me and my fellow racers to pursue others and to make sure that His kingdom is put first through everything that we do.

One response to “Why am I called to the World Race?”

  1. Very proud of you, young man! I know God has great things in store for you and that He will use you to further His kingdom. I am so glad I had the honor of teaching you and getting to know you, even if it was just one semester.
